In 1892 India was changing, more and more people showed unrest for the government ruling. Close to 35 years after being free from the company's regime it seems nothing changed. British government brought in no happiness to India. Officer Brown was just making sure that the previous statement is true to its words. Brown controlled a small village in the province of Mysore and was synonym for devil.
He was not just a arrogant officer, he was a very cruel person by nature. Forgiveness was a word missing from his dictionary and love was replaced by beating. He would beat up the Indian soldiers that worked for him, when he would go on a patrol would beat up poor farmers working. Even when he played cricket or tennis and the ball was touched by Indian he would beat him with the bat. However Vijay Damodar was an exception to all of this. Migrated from the Northern corner of Baluchistan, Viay was very fair and looked one of the British officers. Especially in the small village of Quolum where people had got tanned due to sun, Vijay looked very white.
Vijay served british army for 10 years and was excellent in horse riding and rifle shooting. Brown would only trust him among all Indians that he ever came across. One reason for that perhaps was Vijay happily announced that Britishers are smart and should rule India. For a person who is currently not working with British at all it was always refreshing. He evern defended Brown and accepted his rule. In about 4 months Brown made good friendship with him and appointed him as a collector. Vijay would collect taxes from the villagers, his own farming did not go well and he realized tax collecting work is more profitable.
But what made the two of them such good pals was there hobby for hunting. Especially man eater tigers. In a span of 4 months Brown and Vijay shot down 4 man eaters. Many a times British soldiers crossed the forest and were attacked by the tigers and such killings helped the soldiers security. The British government would send lot of money to Brown for killing the man eaters. Brown would give a few coins to Vijay.
Then one day, Brown and Vijay got to know of a man eater nearby. Both of them decided to go on there new adventure. It was evening time just about the time when the sun touched the ground far away at the horizon. Vijay got on his dark horse, and Brown on his white one. Brown lived in a fort which belonged to the king who ruled before. Today with Brown about 20 armed men lived. Vijay was the only Indian who was also given a place to live. Even some of the British officers who worked under Brown was amazed to see the cruel Brown so very friendly with Vijay. It was very dark and almost night when they reached the outskirts of the forest.............Vijay looked towards Brown who was hardly visible now in dark. Just then they heard a roar......................................
